Korean Song Competition

I just got to know today that I need to prepare a Korean song for competition during my trip!!!!! Faintz! But thank God for this helpful bunch of koreans from IYF based here in Singapore. I chose a song from Vineyard Man - 다가 가고 싶어. It's supposed to mean Missing You or Thinking of You I want to get close to you. I need to memorise the whole song and then they will teach me the singing technique, when to come in soft, strong, etc. Seems like choir training. I need to run for Marathon too. Thank God again, I have been going to gym regular for the past few mths. haha... I wonder why I even spend the $$ for gym, perhaps it's for this season. Feeling pretty excited now because I have watched last year DVD's and seen what they've done during the camp. Can't wait for my trip to come and get away from here soon! _______________________________________________________________ Something happened today and I have no answer for what was asked. Why didn't I ask or go throug...

Counselling Session

It so happened I met one of poly friends while on my way to take the train home after gym. We started chatting and she shared with me about meeting a guy. She's afraid of letting too much of her emotions in as the guy is a non Christian and she was hurt before. She wants to go out with him a few times and invite him to church. And if he doesn't want to go church with her, she will cut off the friendship completely. Ah yo, how can? I told her if she was the unbeliever and someone does that to her, how stumbling can it be?!?! I told her she can still keep the friendship, you won't know the timing of God and how He will work through you to the person! We are ambassadors of Christ and represent God to a certain degree. How we treat others, what we say/do, there are people watching. They may not be believers, but through our daily lifestyle, speech and the way we handle things, people is searching for God. The once in life time experience helped me to counsel quite a number of p...

New language of the youth

I was on my way home last night after gym. Listening to IPOD when I started hearing this conversation from a teenage gal with the acronyms: L.I, L.U, A.L.O. What are these suppose to mean? I won't know. Probably have to ask my cousin. Everything is quick, fast and short here in Singapore even in conversations. I don't think this is a universal symptom of advancing in new age. Yes, there will be near jargons or slangs but these - L.I, L.U, A.L.O. When I was in school more than a decade ago (yea, I am getting old), there was this "F" and "H" language which till now, I have no idea how to speak. haha... I have heard during MY generation but I don't really bother to learn things which are not beneficial. My brain doesn't have the space for it. __________________________________________________________ I am counting down to my trip and also watching the USD rate to go down so that I can get a better exchange rate. I wonder if it will ever go back down to...

Another friend getting married

I have yet another sec sch friend getting married. So nice... Just visited their lovey-dovey home yesterday and at the same time, sec sch mates gathering to catch up. I think there are only 3 singles left out of the group. The one that seems to be the last to be attached has already got herself a long-time boyfriend too. The only consolation was a date I would be having after the housewarming. I am glad I have a date after so many years of just hanging out with good guy friends. Flipside of the coin is that this guy is much, much younger than me. haha... but anyway it was just a meetup for dinner and supposedly movie, I was glad the latter was cancelled though. I was rather tired since I was out the whole day since 8am. I am pretty glad that there wasn't any awkwardness, at least I didn't feel that way. Not too sure about the guy though, I can't exactly say he's a man yet. haha... He's quite a nice person and easy to talk to. It was just a short dinner of about 2 hr...

15th June 2008 - Father's Day

Image
My parents came for service that day and got themselves a good treat watching the funniest drama for that week. My hair stood most of the time because of one very effeminate recruit in the batch. Each buttock shake and each whine gives me the chill right down to my bones. I cannot stand guys who are so girlish. My, I don't think I am that girlish myself! haha... After service, we had a buffet lunch and a short while of entertainment. Took a pix at the MRT with my parents. Sad, my bro didn't join us. He simply hates my church! Haiz... My complexion has been quite dry recently, makes me look much older than usual. I will say my dad has aged alot, my mum still looks young though! :> After lunch, we went on our separate ways as I have a gathering with my colleagues for bonding as well as to celebrate birthday. Took quite a number of pictures but there is one particular picture that I think is rather interesting. Haha, do we look like a happy family? Anyway, that's my colle...

I just met up with the couple from IYF who're part of the organising team for the International Youth Camp that's going to be in Korea. So exciting. Had lunch with them and it's so amazing. Myung Hae has has volunteered herself to the work of the Lord after high school in 2004, has served in Mexico for 10 months and Singapore for 2.5 years! Her husband, Young Hwan, served in China for 10 months and afterwhich came to Singapore together w...

What a timing

Today, a group of CHC members will be going to Israel. And what a timing, I happened to switch to Channel News Asia last night and there was an interview of Asians who are immigrants in Israel. And really, I witnessed a very powerful and impactful testimony of a christian family who has been there for about 13 years or more. This man who was an ordinary person was a chinese vietnamese refugee. While in Vietnam he was working under a christian employer and this employer outreached to him and shared the Good News. He was saved, got married and his family followed the faith. He started to pray and was asking God for direction if he should continue to stay in Vietnam. God told him to move to Israel which he didn't know why. Like Abraham, he obeyed and left Vietnam with his family. He started to settle down in Israel and started a restaurant. Again, he prayed whether to move out of the country because of the unrest and uncertainty. But God told him to stay, again, he obeyed even though ...

Rejecting love....

Was having lunch with my family again at Plaza Singapura - Jap food. :> Had sashimi set, yummy... Anyway I had a conversation with my cousin, anyway there only 2 of us who's eligible for marriage. However, she's not attached being 8 years older than me. Not forgetting the rest of my aunties who aren't attached as well and they are in their 40s. I was telling my cousin I feel like the family is under some kind of generation curse. Why aren't all the girls attached or married? My aunts were disappointed in love, having their own experiences as well as my grandma's 2 failed marriages. My cousin had a fear because her father had cancer and both her mum and her self made many sacrifices. She has a phobia of going through the same thing if she's married. Myself? As much as I have the desire in the past, I have already passed that stage. It seems like there's no point in hoping for romance and love at the same time. Another thing is that I am afraid of losing lo...

TaLK - Teach & Learn in Korea

Image
The exclusive ‘TaLK’ (Teach & Learn in Korea)’ program is inviting a select group of four hundred adventurous individuals to visit Korea and teach English. Open to citizens from countries where English is the national language, the program will enable visitors to gain considerable insight into Korean culture and many of the country’s unique traditions. Sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the event will also provide an excellent opportunity for successful applicants to gain hands-on experience in a professional environment. Once selected, participants will receive Korean government scholarships and teach English in after-school classes at the elementary school level. Leisure time will awarded, allowing teachers to take time to enjoy some of the cultural aspects while traveling to various destinations of their choosing . Rather than have recipients placed in cosmopolitan areas that are essentially very little different form their respective home c...

KPO-ism

Interestingly, I don't suppose any other countries in the world has as many Ks as Singapore. Kia-Su Kia-Si Kia-Po Are instilling fear as a value here in this place? K-Po - being a busy body or nosy poker. My colleague is going through a depressing time because her new born has urinary tract infection at the age of 4 months. She's worried sick and the only salt that's rubbing her wound is her mother-in-law (MIL). She was crying or rather sobbing softly in the pantry and there was this lady that asked me what's wrong with her. I was taken aback as you don't do that in front of the person who's already so sad! So I tried to gently brush her off so that she will just stop asking in front of my colleague or rather behind with perhaps just 1m distance? Haiz.... How sensitive can these people be? Looking at it positively, the person who asked me about her is a mutual colleague whom we seldom cross path with. But she did look very concerned about my colleague and I just...

Counting Down.....

.... to my upcoming trip to KOREA!!!!!!!!! I am pretty excited as I am not following a tour group but an International Youth Fellowship. Yea, I know I am no longer a student but hey, the age group for youth is from 18-35 years of age. :> So statistically speaking, I am still a YOUTH! It's almost like backpacking, free & easy trip. Extract from the web: The World Camp runs for four weeks during the month of July. It consists of programmes and training directed at overcoming themselves. These programmes usually include heaps of entertaining episodes. Around two thousand students from forty different countries had participated in last years 7th IYF World Camp (2004). Meetings and relationships from all over the world ripen while they experience the breathtaking natural scenery of Korea, main industrial facilities, military bases, one-day military experience, diverse cultural presentations, lectures, sightseeing, short marathons, sports competitions and various other programmes....
