Singles Awareness Day
I wouldn't want this day to know as SAD. It's rather quirky to call singles out day to celebrate SAD.a.k.a (SAD) is a humorous holiday celebrated on February 14 (although some prefer the 13th or the 15th to get away from the commercialism associated with the 14th). It serves as an alternative to Valentine's Day for people who are single: that is, who are not involved in a romantic relationship. Some observers of SAD do so out of spite for Valentine's Day, as a Hallmark holiday, or for other reasons.
On Singles Awareness Day, single people gather to celebrate or to commiserate in their single status. Some want to remind romantic couples that they don't need to be in a relationship to celebrate life. A common greeting on this day by its adherents is "Happy SAD!" The day is often used by less-friendly couples as a day to simply remind the singles they know about their current, uninvolved status.
Some of the manifestations of the holiday can be regarded as examples of self-deprecating humor.
Each should enjoy their own singlehood while they still can - it's freedom! Everything is your own, no need to bother about what your partner thinks, etc.
Of course being in a relationship is wonderful! Learning how to make adjustments, accepting responsibilities, learning how to adapt to changes, planning a future together, etc.
I think how China celebrates is much more positive:
Singles Day or Guang Gun Jie (Chinese:光棍节 Ping Ying: guang gun jie literally: bare sticks holiday) is a Chinese pop culture holiday on November 11 for people who are still living the single life.
For breakfast on Singles Day, singles often eat four(deep-fried dough sticks) representing the four "ones" in "11.11" and one Baozi(steamed stuffed buns) representing the middle dot. Many singles also choose to say goodbye to their single lives on this day. Many attend 'blind date' parties and many people choose to marry on this day. In addition to meaning 'single' the four 'ones' of the date can also mean 'only one' as in 'the only one for me.' Some people will use this date and this meaning to tell their special someone that they are the only 'one' in their heart.
